A part of our heritage

Justin & I are generally at our weirdest late at night. A few nights ago, we were talking about whether people in Australia would realize we are Canadian (aka not American). We decided the obvious solution was to integrate quotes from Canadian Heritage Minutes into our conversation wherever we can. Because obviously Australians are very up on their mid 90's Canadian culture.

I would say I have an average knowledge of the Heritage minutes. Maybe slightly more-so thanks to T-room trivia (IYKYK). I did not realize that Justin, who has been known to get distracted mid-sentence, has a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of not just the topics of Heritage minutes, but the actual dialogue. The person who needs his keys & wallet in the exact same place so he doesn't lose them can suddenly recall full quotes from the Canadian content his youth. Astonishing.

Anyways. Here are the phrases we are pretty sure we will be able to work into conversation.

"It means the village..." - from Jacques Cartier

"Don't carry it, dribble it!" - from Basketball

"Is this normal?!" - from Agnes Macphail (this one has always been a fan favourite for us, although the actual Heritage minute is much darker than I remember)

"Come on, come on! Acknowledge!" - from Halifax Explosion (this is what we are going to start saying while waiting for someone to answer the phone)

"I can smell burnt toast!" - from Wilder Penfield

"You're here, aren't ya?" - from Peacemaker

Let me know if you guys have other suggestions. There are worse ways to waste an hour than by re-watching the heritage minutes of our youth.

Meanwhile, on the flour front, there has been some significant progress.

AP flour:

Starting weight (SW): 4.272 kgs

Previous weight (PW): 0.619 kgs

Current weight (CW): 0.147 kgs (-97%!) This is essentially just the weight of the bag. There is maybe a quarter cup of flour left. We will see if I get to it, but either way, I'm calling this one a win.

Bread flour:

SW: 1.245 kgs

PW: 0.330 kgs

CW: 0 kgs (-100%) Finished completely!

Cake flour:

SW: 1.951 kgs

PW: 0.696 kgs

CW: 0.329 kgs (-83%) I honestly don't know if I will be able to use those last 300g, but we shall see...

Yes, I still have approximately 1.2kgs left from the bag of sugar I had to buy to use up some of the flour. I'm happy with my choices.

I'm proud to admit that I can still sing the entire Log driver's waltz from memory.

I would like to add the catchphrase from the bike safety bunnies: Stay alert. Stay safe.

I think you shouldn't limit yourself to just the Canadian Heritage Minutes. The Concerned childrens advertisers is also a Canadian company and there is a wealth of items from the mid 90'2 there (House Hippo!) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Companies_Committed_to_Kids

There is a crafter in Halifax that sells DIY felt House Hippo kits. They are adorable! https://ritavantasselstudio.com/products/house-hippo-hand-stitching-felt-kit-1
